What does D&I mean to you?
It’s about shaping a world where everyone has a voice and an equal chance to succeed. It’s about championing our differences and using them to enrich our industry. It’s a commitment to understanding, respecting, and celebrating the unique perspectives each person brings.
What’s your passion area in diversity?
I strive to inspire and encourage individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds, different religious groups and those impacted by social class disparities – and to dismantle the barriers they face.
What recent developments should we be celebrating in the diversity debate?
The current landscape shows concerning trends, with layoffs and budget cuts threatening to undermine DEI progress. This regressive shift alarms me, as it risks returning us to times when DEI wasn’t embedded in our industry’s fabric.
What is top of mind for 2024?
My focus is on ensuring DEI transcends performative measures, urging organisations to implement initiatives that drive tangible change. I want to see DEI as an integral part of our industry’s DNA. This means championing initiatives that don’t just look good on paper but have a real impact on those who need it most, ensuring that the industry evolves to be truly inclusive and reflective of the society it serves.
Which three words describe you best?
Changemaker, positive, driven.
Who should be on the next iList?
Kianna Briggs – she’s the definition of a real DEI champion who’s driven so much positive change at IPG Mediabrands.
D&I: MY STORY
As the chair of GroupM UK’s Roots network I led initiatives that celebrated cultural diversity, including the launch of a sponsorship programme that connected rising diverse talent with senior leaders.
I consulted on the launch of the Black Equity Organisation (BEO), which advocates for justice and equity for Black communities in Britain. My participation in IPG’s Culture ERG and mentoring through MEFA, Bloom and The Elephant Room has enabled me to support individuals, offering guidance and insight.
